Entry #6 - Self Development... Yet Another Obsession!

Image
I recently purchased a cold plunge … I don’t know where my journey of self development started but it is a journey that I hope leads me to becoming a better person, not only for myself but for my community as well.  My Internet friends, as always, it is great to be writing to you once again and I hope this blog finds you in great health. There is a Matthew McConoughy award acceptance speech from 2014 that never fails to inspire me to be the best version of myself. My favorite part of this speech is when Matthew McConoughy makes reference to a question that was asked of him when he was a young man, “ Who’s your hero”... to which after some time thinking Mr. McConaughy responds “Me ten years from now” the same person that asked the initial question then asks him – ten years down the road – if he has become his hero, to which the response is “no”. The reason his answer is no, is because he will never be able to be himself ten years into the future. The reason he can never become his h

Entry #5 - An Educated Population?

Image
While Doug Duecy and I disagree on A LOT, I think it's safe to say that I believe he is right in stating that there are far more positive outcomes to an educated population, than the inverse. World, it is so lovely to be writing to you once again, behind the comfort of my computer screen. Today we will be discussing Governor Doug Duecy’s thoughts on “raising the bar” on education and setting in motion a plan to have 60% of Arizonians with a college degree.  As fellow college students I think many of us will agree that a degree in whatever field it may be is very beneficial to anyone pursuing a career. It seems like more and more degrees are becoming the bare minimum (aside from 18 years of experience) to land jobs in the ever increasingly competitive job market. Governor Duecy makes claims that with a more educated population there will be a higher employed percentage of individuals therefore meaning taxes will get paid to a higher degree ultimately leading to a community that is

Entry #4 - Thinking Like a Stoic

Image
Philosophy and the many different ideologies that come with it have been practiced for centuries and to this day they are often still studied and even practiced. Hello world, It is your favorite digital babbler and today I wanted to talk to you all about my latest and greatest obsession. Stoicism.  I recently picked up the book How to Think Like a Roman Emperor, by Donald Robertson and in the book there is a good amount of information regarding stoicism and its practices. To put it short and sweet for you, stoicism is the practice of controlling one’s emotions in an environment that one usually has no control in. An example of this would be when driving… Let’s be honest, how many times have you driven literally anywhere and had a fit of road rage because other people on the road seem like they got their license in a day and age where horse drawn carriages were the only form of transportation. I’ll be the first to admit that this is something that has happened to me on more than one o

Entry #3 Marijuana and The Brain

The Effects of Cannabis (Marijuana) on the Brain & Body | Huberman Lab Podcast #92      Hello from one side of the digital world to the other! It is your host Jason Morales, once again ready to indulge you with the latest podcast of my favorite doctor, Dr. Andrew Huberman.  It would appear that as this class progresses, a new podcast that can directly correlate to our class assignments appears as well! Today I will be discussing the slanted view within Dr. Huberman recent podcast that discusses the effects of cannabis on the developing brain as well as the developed brian.  While the podcast in itself doesn’t directly say to not consume marijuana during the developmental stages of the forebrain – until the age of 25 – there are many rhetorical devices employed by Dr. Huberman that make a strong suggestion against the consumption of marijuana until the age previously mentioned. Two of the podcast's strongest rhetorical devices used are ethos and logos. Within the podcast Dr. H
