Entry #6 - Self Development... Yet Another Obsession!

I recently purchased a cold plunge… I don’t know where my journey of self development started but it is a journey that I hope leads me to becoming a better person, not only for myself but for my community as well.

My Internet friends, as always, it is great to be writing to you once again and I hope this blog finds you in great health. There is a Matthew McConoughy award acceptance speech from 2014 that never fails to inspire me to be the best version of myself. My favorite part of this speech is when Matthew McConoughy makes reference to a question that was asked of him when he was a young man, “ Who’s your hero”... to which after some time thinking Mr. McConaughy responds “Me ten years from now” the same person that asked the initial question then asks him – ten years down the road – if he has become his hero, to which the response is “no”. The reason his answer is no, is because he will never be able to be himself ten years into the future. The reason he can never become his hero is because life is a constant state of growth, be it physically, mentally, or even emotionally one should always strive for growth in one aspect of life or another. I believe I first heard this speech when I initially graduated high school and can say in all honesty that it changed my life. I had just entered a stage where contentment was all I knew. I was okay with just being okay, and although I didn’t know it at the moment, that feeling was eating me alive. This speech quite literally pushed me into a constant state of pursuing growth not only for myself but for those around me because, “Blessed are old people who plant trees knowing they shall never sit in the shade of their foliage” Hyacinthe Loyson.

  1. Your four new entries look great, Jason. Your writing flows well, you are developing your content, and you are working the concepts of rhetoric to connect to your audience and keep them engaged. Good visual appeal with images and layout. Bit of room at times to develop and discuss further. Nice work. Keep it up!
